Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will launch a three-month nationwide awareness campaign on unclaimed financial assets from Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on October 4, 2025.
The campaign, titled “आपकी पूँजी, आपका अधिकार” (Your Money, Your Right), will run from October to December 2025 and is being coordinated by the Department of Financial Services (DFS) under the Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), and the Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA) of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
Unclaimed financial assets such as bank deposits, insurance policy claims, dividends, shares, and mutual fund proceeds often remain untouched due to lack of awareness or outdated account details. The campaign aims to bridge this gap by offering citizens on-the-spot guidance on how to track, update, and claim their unclaimed assets. Demonstrations of digital tools and simplified claim procedures will also be showcased.
To make the process transparent and user-friendly, regulators have developed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and FAQs, which will be shared during the campaign. A special financial inclusion exhibition will also be organised, featuring stalls from banks, insurance companies, mutual funds, and pension institutions to help citizens directly engage with service providers.
According to Finance Ministry, the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that every rupee saved by citizens reaches its rightful owner or their legal heirs, strengthening both financial awareness and inclusion across households.
