In a landmark moment for Arunachal Pradesh’s economic and industrial growth, Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, along with Chief Minister Pema Khandu, inaugurated the state’s first commercial coal mine at Namchik Namphuk in Changlang district on Monday. The inauguration marks the official commencement of commercial coal mining in the state, positioning Arunachal Pradesh firmly on India’s energy and industrial map.
The event began with the Bhumi Pujan ceremony and a tree plantation drive under the “100-Tree Plantation Initiative” led jointly by the Union Minister and the Chief Minister. This was followed by the formal inauguration of the Namchik Namphuk Coal Mine and the handing over of the mining lease, along with the flagging off of tools and machinery to the Namchik-Namphuk Central Coal Block – marking the operational start of the project under Coal Projects Private Limited (CPPL).
Speaking at the inauguration, Reddy hailed the development as “a symbol of new hope and a significant step toward energy security and regional development in the North East.” He highlighted that the mine, which holds reserves of over 1.5 crore tonnes of coal, will contribute significantly to meeting India’s growing energy needs while boosting local economic activity.
“This project embodies the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat by enhancing domestic coal production, creating jobs, and driving inclusive development across the region,” the Union Minister stated.
CM Khandu, in his address, described the project as a turning point in Arunachal Pradesh’s development trajectory, emphasizing its potential to generate employment, enhance state revenue, and empower local communities. He said, “The operationalization of the Namchik Namphuk Coal Mine will not only boost our economy but also open new avenues for investment and industrial growth in Arunachal Pradesh.”
