Isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Lakshadweep are expected to see very heavy rainfall on Friday, says the latest release by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which forecasts enhanced rainfall activity over Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry over the next seven days.
In the past 24 hours (ending at 8:30 a.m. on October 17), Tamil Nadu recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Heavy rainfall was also witnessed in parts of coastal and south interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and Lakshadweep.
IMD defines heavy rain as rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm, very heavy rain as rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm, and extremely heavy rain as rainfall exceeding 204.4 mm.
Meanwhile, Delhi-NCR is expected to experience clear skies and relatively stable weather over the next four days, with no rain forecast from October 17 to 20. Maximum temperatures are expected to remain between 31°C and 34°C, while minimum temperatures will hover between 18°C and 20°C.
On Friday, skies over Delhi are expected to be mainly clear, with daytime winds blowing from the north at speeds up to 10 kmph, gradually easing in the evening.
On October 18, mist and haze are likely during the morning, followed by clear conditions through the day. Both maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be slightly above normal.
Shallow fog and smog are likely at many places on October 19 and 20 during the morning hours, clearing up by noon. Winds will shift direction through the day, starting from the northeast or southwest in the morning and moving northward in the afternoon.
The IMD has advised residents in rain-affected regions of the south to stay alert for potential waterlogging and disruptions, particularly in areas prone to heavy downpours.
