The India Meteorological Department on Thursday said that a depression over the east-central Arabian Sea and a well-marked low-pressure area over East Vidarbha and adjoining South Chhattisgarh are expected to bring intense rainfall to several parts of eastern and northeastern India over the next 24 hours.
Under the influence of these systems, the IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over Bihar and isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on October 31. The IMD has advised residents and authorities in these regions to remain alert for potential waterlogging, landslides, and disruption of local transport.
During the past 24 hours ending at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Telangana recorded exceptionally heavy rainfall, with some locations receiving more than 30 cm of rain. Konkan and Goa also experienced heavy to very heavy showers, while Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Vidarbha, Marathwada, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Coastal Karnataka recorded heavy rainfall at isolated places.
IMD defines heavy rain as rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm, very heavy rain as rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm, and extremely heavy rain as rainfall exceeding 204.4 mm.
Weather outlook for Delhi-NCR
Delhi-NCR is expected to see generally cloudy skies with a spell of very light rain or drizzle on Thursday. Maximum temperatures are likely to range between 28°C and 30°C, slightly below normal by 1-3°C. Winds will remain light, shifting from the northeast in the afternoon to the southeast by evening.
On October 31, Delhi may witness partly cloudy skies with smog or shallow fog in the morning. Daytime temperatures are expected to hover between 29°C and 31°C, with minimum temperatures between 17°C and 19°C. Similar weather is likely to persist over the next two days, with mainly clear skies and shallow fog or haze during morning hours.
Between November 1 and 2, the maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to remain around 30-32°C, while the minimum may stay slightly above normal at 16-19°C. Winds will be mostly light to moderate, blowing from the northwest during the afternoon and calming down during the evening and night hours.
