India beat West Indies by seven wickets on Tuesday to seal a 2-0 series sweep at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The win marks India’s 10th consecutive Test series victory over the Caribbean and their first series triumph under captain Shubman Gill, following a 2-2 draw in England earlier this year.
The visitors, asked to follow on, showed resistance with centuries from John Campbell and Shai Hope and a late 79-run partnership for the last wicket, stretching the contest into the fifth day. However, India chased down the modest target of 121 in just over an hour, earning 12 points in the World Test Championship and maintaining third place with a points percentage of 61.9.
KL Rahul was the linchpin of the chase, finishing unbeaten on 58 and taking his series total to 192 runs, second only to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 219. Rahul’s innings, comprising six fours and two sixes, was well supported by Sai Sudharsan as India overcame an early wobble.
The day began with Rahul and Sudharsan playing four maiden overs before the latter broke the shackles by dancing down the pitch to loft Jomel Warrican over mid-off for four.
Spinner Kuldeep Yadav took eight wickets across the match on a slow, low track.
