Iran is in discussions on the release of two French citizens it detained in May 2022 in exchange for an Iranian citizen detained by France, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday.

Baghaei added that Paris had never informed Tehran of the reasons behind the arrest of Mahdieh Esfandiari, an Iranian student living in the French city of Lyon who was arrested this year over anti-Israel social media posts.
