Ajay Singhal, an senior IRRS officer of WMO, DOT has been conferred with prestigious Honor of Ashoka Award for Indian Bureaucracy in presence of high dignitaries at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. Singhal, a technocrat from MANIT, has been conferred with ‘Honour of Ashoka Award’ on Sunday October 12 at India Habitat Centre New Delhi along with other bureaucrats of the country.
Singhal is an senior officer of Indian Radio Regulatory Service 1998 batch, presently working in Wireless Monitoring Organisation, Department of Telecom, Ministry of Communications. Born and brought up in Bhopal, Singhal is an alumnous of Nalanda and Campion School.
Over his 25 years long career in public service, Singhal earned many accolades& the title of ‘Spectrum Man’ for exceptional contributions, pioneering works, innovation & out of the box approach in the field of Spectrum Monitoring & enforcement. He was nominated for Prime Minister’s award, conferred with prestigious G files Governance award and is already figured in Limca Book , India Book & Asia book of records.
The recent ‘Honour of Ashoka award’ is another feather in the cap.
Born on February 21, 1976 in Bhopal, Ajay Singhal serves as a Senior Officer in the Indian Radio Regulatory Service under the Ministry of Communications. From his very first posting in Jammu & Kashmir, known for its challenging conditions, Singhal demonstrated exceptional courage and dedication.
He took firm action against unauthorized wireless activities, working closely with local administration and fearlessly enforcing Indian wireless rules.
His commitment continued in Madhya Pradesh, where he unearthed non realisation of revenue from irregular spectrum use and played a key role in establishing Wireless Monitoring Stations at Bhopal and Raipur.
In 2012, during his tenure at the International Satellite Monitoring Earth Station, Jalna, he turned around a non-functional setup and went on to develop an innovative, low-cost, in-house satellite monitoring system with a manual steerable antenna. This indigenous solution detected over 300 spectrum irregularities, earned a place in the Limca Book of Records, and brought him national recognition, including a nomination for the Prime Minister’s Award and the prestigious G Files Governance Award 2015, where he was celebrated as the “Spectrum Man.”
Continuing his journey of innovation, Singhal later spearheaded nationwide terrestrial spectrum monitoring, developing portable spectrum scanning devices that transformed India’s ability to detect and analyze cellular signals.
He also led a countrywide campaign against illegal mobile boosters, combining public awareness with administrative action resulting in the surrender and removal of thousands of such devices across major cities, including Delhi. His model was later adopted as a Standard Operating Procedure by the Department of Telecommunications.
With over 25 years of distinguished service, Ajay Singhal is known for his innovation, courage, and visionary leadership. His pioneering work has greatly strengthened spectrum monitoring framework and set benchmarks for excellence in governance.
