The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said that rainfall activity is expected to remain active over southern India in the coming days, even as the southwest monsoon continues its retreat from several parts of the country. According to the weather agency, enhanced rainfall, with isolated heavy showers, is likely to continue over Kerala and Tamil Nadu during the next seven days.
The southwest monsoon has now further withdrawn from parts of Karnataka and Telangana, most areas of Maharashtra, and the entire regions of Goa, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Sikkim. It has also retreated from remaining areas of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, as well as most parts of Chhattisgarh and some areas of Odisha and the northeastern states.
Heavy rainfall over coastal Andhra Pradesh is expected on Monday, prompting advisories for local authorities and residents to stay alert. During the past 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rain was recorded in isolated places across coastal Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Heavy showers were also reported in Kerala & Mahe, Odisha, Assam, and Tamil Nadu.
IMD defines heavy rain as rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm, very heavy rain as rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm, and extremely heavy rain as rainfall exceeding 204.4 mm.
In contrast, Delhi-NCR is likely to experience mainly clear skies through October 16. The maximum temperature will range between 31°C and 34°C, with minimum temperatures between 18°C and 21°C. Temperatures are expected to remain near or slightly below normal during this period.
Winds over Delhi will predominantly blow from the northwest during the afternoons, with speeds varying between 8 and 12 kmph. Mornings may see lighter winds from the southwest, shifting direction and gradually weakening in the evenings and nights.
The weather pattern reflects the seasonal transition as the monsoon withdraws, leading to clearer skies in northern India and lingering rainfall in the south. Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas along the Andhra coast to take precautions in view of the expected heavy downpour.
