Philately, often called the King of Hobbies, is more than just a pastime; it serves as an educational gateway into the history, culture, and identity of nations. To promote this hobby that reflects India’s rich cultural heritage, the Department of Posts is celebrating National Postal Week from October 7th to 11th, 2025, by organizing various events across the country.
As part of the celebrations, students from various schools have been visiting different Philatelic Museums, including the one at the Red Fort in New Delhi.
These visits offer students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the stories behind the stamps, connect with historical events, and appreciate the important role the Department of Posts plays in communicating and preserving our nation’s history.
For young learners, engaging in philatelic activities encourages creativity, curiosity, and a deeper understanding of the past.
To foster interest in this valuable hobby, the Department of Posts has introduced key initiatives such as the Dhai Akhar National Level Letter Writing Competition, which is held annually and allows participants under and above 18 years to express themselves through letter writing while addressing significant social themes.
Another important program is the Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana (Scholarship for Promotion of Aptitude and Research in Stamps as a Hobby), launched across India on 1 August 2025. This scholarship supports school students from classes 6 to 9 who demonstrate both academic excellence and a passion for philately.
Alongside these efforts, the Department frequently issues Commemorative Postage Stamps, My Stamps, Postcards, Special Covers, Cancellations, and other philatelic materials, continuously celebrating India’s diverse heritage and modern accomplishments throughout the year.
