National workshop on NAKSHA programme prepares District Collectors for nationwide rollout

The Department of Land Resources (DoLR), in collaboration with the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), has organised a two-day national workshop to train District Collectors on the upcoming NAKSHA programme — an initiative aimed at transforming urban land record management through advanced geospatial technology.

The workshop, being held on October 27–28 at LBSNAA’s B N Yugandhar Centre for Rural Studies (BNYCRS), brings together District Magistrates and senior administrators from 28 states and three Union Territories. It aims to strengthen administrative, technical and legal readiness for the nationwide rollout of the National Geospatial Knowledge-based Land Survey of Urban Habitations (NAKSHA) programme.

Dr. Bagadi Gautham, Director of BNYCRS, will deliver the inaugural address, followed by a keynote address by Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Department of Land Resources. Kunal Satyarthi, Joint Secretary, DoLR, will present an overview of the initiative, while S. K. Sinha, Additional Surveyor General of India, will lead technical sessions on workflow and data acquisition.

The workshop will also feature a live demonstration of the NAKSHA Web-GIS portal, developed by MPSEDC, showcasing digital mapping and survey functionalities.

Senior officials from Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Assam and Madhya Pradesh will share their experiences and best practices in modernising land records, providing insights for the pilot implementation phase.

Sessions on the administrative and legal framework will be led by N. K. Sudhanshu, Director General of YASHADA, and S. Chockalingam, CEO, Maharashtra, focusing on governance and policy aspects. The workshop will conclude with a ground-truthing demonstration by the Survey of India, illustrating the integration of field data with digital systems.

Sessions are designed to equip District Collectors with practical knowledge of geospatial tools, GIS mapping, and legal frameworks to ensure effective rollout of the programme.
