Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Ltd based in Singrauli, is actively participating in the Government of India’s Special Campaign 5.0, focusing on cleanliness, record management, scrap disposal, and sustainability initiatives.
In a creative expression of the campaign’s “Waste to Beauty” vision, NCL is installing large sculptures of a peacock—the national bird—and a barasingha, crafted entirely from iron scrap generated during mining operations. These installations aim to promote environmental responsibility while showcasing innovation in waste reuse.
As part of its commitment to sustainable sanitation, NCL has also installed five bio-toilets at its various project sites. These eco-friendly units are designed to serve both workers and nearby communities, in line with the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission, by ensuring hygienic and low-impact waste management.
To engage the community and raise awareness about recycling, NCL organized a “Waste to Art” competition at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Singrauli, on October 17. Students participated by creating artworks from discarded materials, reinforcing the importance of sustainable habits from a young age.
NCL’s efforts under Special Campaign 5.0 extend beyond symbolic gestures. The company is conducting extensive cleanliness drives and outreach activities while also targeting improved administrative efficiency. As part of its goals, NCL aims to clean 75 locations, sanitize 85,000 square feet of area, dispose of 2,500 metric tonnes of scrap, review 350 physical files, and examine over 9,000 e-files.
