NHAI to install QR code sign boards on highways to improve transparency and commuter convenience

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Friday announced plans to install QR code-enabled Project Information Sign Boards across National Highway stretches in a bid to enhance transparency, road safety, and commuter convenience.

The new vertical QR code sign boards will allow highway users to scan and instantly access project-specific details, including National Highway number, chainage, project length, construction and maintenance timelines, and contact details of the Highway Patrol, Toll Manager, Project Manager, Resident Engineer, and the NHAI field office. Emergency helpline number 1033 will also be prominently displayed.

Beyond project data, the boards will provide real-time information on nearby facilities such as hospitals, petrol pumps, toilets, restaurants, police stations, truck lay-byes, vehicle repair shops, and e-charging stations, along with distances to the nearest toll plaza.

To ensure maximum visibility, NHAI will place the sign boards at toll plazas, wayside amenities, rest areas, truck lay-byes, and highway start and end points.

According to Road Transport & Highways Ministry, the initiative will not only improve access to vital information but also help strengthen road safety measures, empower commuters with easy access to emergency services, and enhance the overall user experience on India’s expanding highway network.
