Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while celebrating Diwali with the Indian Navy aboard the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant off the coasts of Goa and Karwar, highlighted a major national achievement: over 100 districts in India are now free from Maoist influence.
Addressing the naval personnel, PM Modi recalled that before 2014, around 125 districts were affected by Maoist violence. Through persistent efforts over the past decade, this number has dramatically reduced, with only 11 districts showing any influence and just three districts facing active areas of impact.
“Today, for the first time, more than 100 districts are completely free from Maoist terror, breathing in the fresh air of freedom,” the Prime Minister said, acknowledging the sacrifices and dedication of the security forces in achieving this milestone.
He noted that regions once crippled by Maoist activities, where roads were blocked, schools and hospitals destroyed, and development projects stalled, are now witnessing infrastructure growth, new industries, and educational opportunities for children.
PM Modi praised not only the armed forces but also police personnel from the BSF, CRPF, and other units who worked tirelessly under challenging conditions. “Many brave men and women lost limbs but never their spirit. Their sacrifices have paved the way for peace, development, and safety across the country,” he said.
The Prime Minister also reflected on the significance of celebrating Diwali with the Navy aboard INS Vikrant, calling the experience unforgettable. He described the aircraft carrier as a symbol of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, India’s self-reliance, and highlighted the rapid growth in indigenous defence production, including over 40 warships and submarines added to the Navy since 2014.
“From mountains to seas, our armed forces embody courage, discipline, and selfless service,” he said, urging citizens to celebrate Diwali with pride and unity.
PM Modi concluded his address by extending Diwali greetings to the armed forces, their families, and the 140 crore citizens of India, invoking a patriotic spirit with chants of “Bharat Mata ki Jai!” and “Vande Mataram!”
