Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin to extend warm greetings on his 73rd birthday, reaffirming the special and privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia.
During their telephone conversation, PM Modi conveyed his best wishes for President Putin’s good health and success in all his endeavours. The two leaders reviewed the progress in the bilateral agenda and reiterated their shared commitment to further strengthen cooperation across diverse sectors.
PM Modi conveyed that he looks forward to welcoming Putin to India for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit in December, which will coincide with the 15th anniversary of the elevation of the strategic partnership to the level of a “special and privileged” relationship.
In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Spoke with my friend President Putin and conveyed warm birthday greetings and best wishes for his good health and long life. Deeply appreciate his personal commitment to deepening India-Russia ties over the years.”
The call comes shortly after both leaders met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin last month, where they discussed regional and global developments and underlined the importance of India-Russia cooperation for global peace, prosperity, and stability.
India and Russia also marked the 25th anniversary of the Declaration on Strategic Partnership on October 3, 2025. The historic declaration, signed in 2000 by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and President Vladimir Putin, established a framework for close cooperation in areas including defence, energy, science and technology, trade, education, and culture.
