Maharashtra batter Prithvi Shaw struck a blazing double century off just 141 balls in the second innings of the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy match against Chandigarh on Monday. His 141-ball double hundred is the third-fastest in Ranji Trophy history.
Shaw reached his century in just 72 balls—missing a spot among the top five fastest Ranji centurions by only four deliveries. He crossed 150 in 105 balls, as per Wisden.
His marathon innings came to an end after 156 balls, having scored 222 runs studded with 29 fours and five sixes. Maharashtra stood at 348/3 in 50.2 overs, with Ruturaj Gaikwad (27*) at the crease.
Ahead of the 2025–26 domestic season, Shaw switched his allegiance to Maharashtra after receiving a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Mumbai earlier this year.
Before the Ranji season began, the 25-year-old made a statement against the Shardul Thakur-led Mumbai side with a sublime century on the opening day of the fixture.
Opening the innings for Maharashtra alongside Arshin Kulkarni, Shaw brought up his hundred off 140 balls. He took time to settle into the surface’s nature, while Kulkarni adopted a fearless approach, dominating the Mumbai attack. Shaw reached his half-century in 84 balls and looked well set on 76.
At the other end, Kulkarni raced to a century off just 95 deliveries and continued to dismantle Mumbai’s bowling lineup featuring Shardul Thakur, Tushar Deshpande, Shivam Dube, and spinners Tanush Kotian and Shams Mulani.
Kulkarni came close to his own double hundred but fell for 186 off 139 balls against the run of play, bringing an end to a mammoth 305-run opening partnership.
