Union Power Minister Manohar Lal to attend G20 energy meet in South Africa

Union Minister for Power, Manohar Lal, will represent India at the G20 Energy Transitions Ministerial Meeting (ETMM) being held in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa, from October 7 to 10.

The meeting, hosted under South Africa’s G20 Presidency, will bring together energy ministers and senior officials from the world’s leading economies to deliberate on critical global energy issues, including energy security, clean cooking, and sustainable industrial development.

During the summit, the Union Minister will participate in sessions on “Energy Security, Clean Cooking, Affordable and Reliable Access” and “Sustainable Industrial Development.” These sessions aim to strengthen global collaboration for ensuring equitable access to clean, affordable, and reliable energy — a key enabler for economic growth and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Manohar Lal is expected to highlight India’s achievements in accelerating its energy transition, particularly its milestone of generating 50% of its total power capacity from renewable sources. This development comes ahead of global timelines and reflects India’s commitment to a clean and resilient energy future.

He will also share India’s strategies and best practices in expanding energy access and affordability, particularly in rural and underserved regions. The Minister is likely to underscore that developing countries, while contributing the least to global emissions, bear the brunt of climate impacts and require greater support in their transition efforts.

Reaffirming India’s approach to inclusive growth, Manohar Lal will emphasize the country’s commitment to a just and collaborative global energy transition, aligning with the broader vision of “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”
