Vice President Radhakrishnan pays floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, Tiruppur Kumaran in Tamil Nadu

Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan received a rousing welcome in Coimbatore and Tiruppur on Tuesday during his first visit to Tamil Nadu after assuming office, following his recent return from an official visit to Seychelles.

Upon his arrival at the Coimbatore International Airport, the Vice President was greeted with warmth and enthusiasm by local residents, officials, and representatives from various organizations. Later, he was accorded a grand felicitation by the Coimbatore Citizen Forum at CODISSIA, where he was also presented with a Guard of Honour.

Expressing his gratitude for the affection shown by the people of Tamil Nadu, the Vice President spoke about the enduring values of service, integrity, and nation-building, emphasizing that collective effort is key to achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat. He highlighted the importance of each region’s contribution to national progress and commended the people of Coimbatore for their industrious and enterprising spirit.

“Coimbatore’s energy and enterprise have made it a symbol of progress and prosperity,” Radhakrishnan said, stressing the importance of ensuring the welfare of workers for sustained industrial growth. He noted that agricultural development and industrial progress are interlinked pillars of a strong economy. Quoting the revered Tamil poet Mahakavi Subramania Bharathi, he remarked that the growth of industries, manufacturing, and commerce is essential to make Bharat a truly prosperous nation.

The Vice President also visited the Town Hall Corporation Building in Coimbatore, where he paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, recalling the Father of the Nation’s timeless message of peace and service.

Later in the day, Radhakrishnan participated in the centenary celebrations of Shanthalinga Ramasamy Adigalar at Perur Mutt, where he lauded Adigalar’s lifelong dedication to spreading spiritual values, promoting education, and fostering discipline and harmony in society.

In the evening, the Vice President travelled to his hometown Tiruppur, where he received a heartfelt welcome from residents. He paid floral tributes at the statues of Tiruppur Kumaran and Mahatma Gandhi, honouring their contributions to India’s freedom movement.

As part of his ongoing visit, the Vice President will attend a felicitation programme in Tiruppur on October 29, before proceeding to Madurai in the evening to offer prayers at the Meenakshi Amman Temple. On October 30, he is scheduled to participate in the Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar Jayanthi event at Pasumpon in Ramanathapuram district.
