In a significant achievement for Ayurveda-based research, the Pharmacology Laboratory of the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, has received triple ISO certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The lab has been accredited with IS/ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System), IS/ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management System), and IS/ISO 45001:2018 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System).
The recognition, awarded during a BIS event on Quality Management System certification for CCRH officials in New Delhi, marks a major milestone for AIIA — an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Ayush. It reinforces the institute’s commitment to world-class standards in quality, environmental responsibility, and workplace safety.
The implementation of an Integrated Management System (IMS) has enabled AIIA to streamline research processes, strengthen ethical and environmental compliance, and boost operational efficiency in pre-clinical pharmacological studies on Ayurvedic formulations.
According to AIIA, the certifications bring several benefits, including standardized experimental protocols under the Quality Management System, eco-conscious operations through waste reduction and energy efficiency under the Environmental Management System, and improved workplace safety, risk mitigation, and regular safety audits under the Occupational Health and Safety Management System.
Speaking on the achievement, Prof. (Vaidya) P.K. Prajapati, Director of AIIA, said that the ISO certification is a proud moment for AIIA and reflects its continuous pursuit of excellence in education, research, and institutional governance. He added that integrating globally recognized ISO standards with traditional Ayurvedic research reinforces the institute’s commitment to quality, safety, and sustainability, setting a new benchmark for Ayurveda institutions across India.
Lalthan Pari, Scientist E, BIS, emphasized the importance of implementing QMS across organizations to elevate systemic standards. Dr. Subhash Kaushik, Director General of CCRH, highlighted that quality, commitment, and continuous improvement are the three pillars that drive institutional excellence.
The AIIA, accredited with NAAC A++ and recognized as India’s first NABH-accredited public Ayurveda hospital, operates a 200-bed referral facility with 12 specialty departments and 45 clinics. The institute continues to integrate classical Ayurvedic principles with modern scientific research to promote evidence-based, sustainable healthcare.
