Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary, on Monday flagged off two new Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train services between Delhi and Shamli at Baraut railway station.
The new services — Delhi Junction–Shamli–Delhi Junction and Delhi Shahdara–Shamli–Delhi Shahdara — are aimed at improving daily connectivity for passengers, students, farmers and professionals travelling in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Vaishnaw said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian Railways continues to enhance passenger services and infrastructure. He said that the introduction of these two MEMU trains fulfils a long-pending demand of the Shamli–Baghpat region and will provide easier and faster travel.
The Minister informed that Shamli railway station is being upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme with an investment of ₹25 crore. He also announced the doubling of the Delhi–Shamli railway section.
Highlighting the developments in Uttar Pradesh since 2014, Vaishnaw stated that 5,272 km of new rail lines have been constructed in the state and the railway network has achieved complete electrification. He added that 1,460 flyovers and road underbridges have been built, 154 lifts and 156 escalators have been installed at stations, and Wi-Fi services have been provided at 771 stations. Presently, 34 Vande Bharat Express and 26 Amrit Bharat Express trains are operating in Uttar Pradesh.
