Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and invited him to inaugurate two major development projects in the state – the new terminal of Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport and the ₹10,601-crore brownfield Ammonia-Urea complex at Namrup.
During the meeting, which lasted nearly 20 minutes at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Sarma extended a formal invitation to PM Modi to dedicate the projects to the people of Assam. Both initiatives are expected to play a transformative role in strengthening connectivity and industrial growth in the Northeast.
Taking to X after the meeting, the Chief Minister said, “Had the privilege to call upon Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji in New Delhi today. We have invited him to dedicate two major transformative projects to the people of Assam – the brand new terminal of Guwahati’s LGBI Airport and the foundation stone of the ₹10,601 crore brownfield Ammonia-Urea complex at Namrup. Grateful that Adarniya Modi Ji has kindly consented. We eagerly await his visit.”
The upcoming state-of-the-art terminal at Guwahati Airport is designed to handle over 1.3 crore passengers annually, easing congestion at the existing facility and positioning Guwahati as a major aviation hub for the Northeast. Developed with modern design and sustainable infrastructure, the terminal is expected to enhance air connectivity and passenger experience while transforming Guwahati into the gateway to Southeast Asia.
The Namrup Ammonia-Urea complex, once operational, will be a key milestone in ensuring a steady fertiliser supply to the entire Northeast region. The ₹10,601-crore project is expected to boost agricultural productivity and strengthen the region’s industrial base.
Sarma said that the projects reflect the Centre’s unwavering commitment to the development of Assam and the Northeast under the leadership of PM Modi. “These initiatives symbolise Assam’s transformative journey with a focus on connectivity, industrial growth, and self-reliance,” he added.
