Bihar polls: PM Modi takes jibe at Opposition’s election manifesto

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called the election manifesto of Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) a “bunch of lies” and accused the opposition of trying to mislead the people of Bihar. Addressing a massive rally in Arrah ahead of assembly elections, the Prime Minister contrasted the NDA’s “honest Sankalp Patra” with what he described as the opposition’s “document of deceit.”

“In the NDA’s Sankalp Patra, there are clear provisions for children’s education, family healthcare, employment opportunities for the youth, and irrigation facilities for farmers,” PM Modi said. “On one hand, the NDA has presented an honest manifesto; on the other hand, those from the jungle raj have filled theirs with lies and deceit. Do they think the people are foolish? Don’t forget – this is the public; they know everything,” he said, evoking loud cheers from the crowd.

Highlighting the NDA’s focus on employment and economic development, PM Modi said Bihar’s high youth population is the driving force behind the alliance’s emphasis on education and skill development. He reiterated the NDA’s promise to create one crore jobs and employment opportunities in the coming years, adding that the manifesto includes a detailed roadmap to achieve this goal. “Our resolve is that the youth of Bihar should work in Bihar itself and make the state proud,” he said, calling for Bihar to emerge as a major hub of ‘Made in India’ manufacturing.

In a major announcement, PM Modi said the new NDA government in Bihar would provide an additional ₹3,000 to farmers on top of the ₹6,000 already given annually under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, bringing the total benefit to ₹9,000. He also announced the launch of the ‘Bihar Dairy Mission’ to boost the income of livestock farmers. “There was a time when Bihar had to import fish from other states; today, Bihar sells fish to others. This transformation is the result of the NDA’s policies,” he said.

The Prime Minister also took aim at the growing rift within the Mahagathbandhan, alleging that the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) had “stolen” the Chief Minister’s post from the Congress under pressure. “Just a day before nominations, gundagardi (hooliganism) was happening behind closed doors. Congress did not want an RJD Chief Minister, but RJD forced it at gunpoint and declared Tejashwi Yadav as their CM face,” he said. “The feud between the RJD and Congress has increased so much that after the elections, they will start breaking each other’s heads. Such people can never do good for Bihar.”

Reviving his long-standing criticism of the RJD’s previous rule, PM Modi warned voters not to return to what he described as the “dark era of jungle raj,” defined by “katta, grirta, katuta, kusanskar, kushashan, and corruption.” He accused the opposition alliance of “trying to erase Bihar’s identity” by supporting infiltrators and conducting “yatras in their favor.”

PM Modi said that unlike the opposition, the NDA government was working cohesively for Bihar’s progress, with policies aimed at empowering women, boosting agriculture, and building a stronger economy. “Several robust measures have been proposed to empower women and daughters so that as many sisters of Bihar as possible can become ‘Lakhpati Didis’,” he added.
