The Ministry of Finance has issued a reminder to eligible Central Government employees and National Pension System (NPS) subscribers that the last date to opt for the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) is 30 November 2025. The notification for UPS was issued earlier this year on 24 January 2025.
According to the Ministry, NPS subscribers wishing to switch to UPS can either submit their request online through the Central Recordkeeping Agency (CRA) system or file a physical application with their respective Nodal Office. Applications submitted by the deadline will be processed as per the prescribed procedure.
Ministry highlighted that the UPS offers several benefits, including a switch option, tax exemptions, provisions for resignation and compulsory retirement, and other financial safeguards. The Ministry has urged all eligible employees as well as past retirees under NPS to submit their requests on time to avail the scheme’s advantages.
The Government has also clarified that employees who opt for UPS will retain the flexibility to return to NPS later if they choose to do so.
The 30 November deadline applies to all eligible Central Government employees and retirees covered under NPS.
