Deeply shocked, fullest support to affected Indians: EAM Jaishankar on Saudi bus accident

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday expressed deep shock and concern over the bus accident in Saudi Arabia involving several Indian Umrah pilgrims near Medina.

According to the Indian mission in Jeddah, a passenger bus carrying Indian pilgrims collided with a diesel tanker early Monday morning, resulting in a major explosion and severe damage to the vehicle.

In a post on X, Jaishankar said, “Deeply shocked at the accident involving Indian nationals in Medinah, Saudi Arabia. Our Embassy in Riyadh and Consulate in Jeddah are giving fullest support to Indian nationals and families affected by this accident. Sincere condolences to the bereaved families. Pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.”

Following the incident, the Consulate General of India in Jeddah has set up a 24/7 control room and issued emergency helpline numbers for those seeking information or assistance.

“In view of a tragic bus accident near Madina, Saudi Arabia, involving Indian Umrah pilgrims, a 24×7 Control Room has been set up in the Consulate General of India, Jeddah,” the mission posted on X. The helpline numbers are: 8002440003 (toll free), 0122614093, 0126614276, and 0556122301 (WhatsApp).
