The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday extended the schedule for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 12 States and Union Territories by seven days. The revision is being conducted with January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date for enrolment.
Under the revised timeline, the enumeration period – involving the collection and digitisation of voter forms – will now continue until December 11, 2025, instead of December 4. The rationalisation and re-arrangement of polling stations will also be completed by December 11.
Preparation of the control table and the draft roll will be carried out between December 12 and 15, followed by the publication of the draft electoral roll on December 16, which was earlier scheduled for December 9.
Citizens may file claims and objections from December 16, 2025, to January 15, 2026. The notice phase, which includes issuance, hearings, verification, and disposal of claims and objections by Electoral Registration Officers, will run from December 16, 2025, to February 7, 2026.
The checking of the roll’s health parameters and the Commission’s approval for final publication must be completed by February 10, 2026, and the final electoral roll will be released on February 14, a week later than the originally planned February 7.
The second phase of the SIR covers Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, following the recently concluded revision in Bihar.
