IMD forecasts heavy rain for Tamil Nadu and Kerala

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday forecast isolated heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu between November 6 and 8, and over Kerala from November 8 to 10.

During the past 24 hours (ending at 8:30 a.m. on November 6), heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated places in Tamil Nadu.

IMD defines heavy rain as rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm, very heavy rain as rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm, and extremely heavy rain as rainfall exceeding 204.4 mm.

Meanwhile, weather conditions in the Delhi-NCR region are expected to remain largely clear over the next few days, with mist or haze likely to appear during evening and morning hours.

On Thursday, Delhi is expected to experience mainly clear skies with mist or haze developing towards the evening. The maximum temperature will range between 26°C and 28°C, while winds from the northwest will blow at speeds up to 15 kmph in the afternoon before calming to below 12 kmph by night.

On November 7 and 8, the capital will witness mainly clear sky with smog/shallow fog during morning hours. The maximum temperature will remain between 25°C and 27°C, and the minimum between 10°C and 12°C, both below normal by up to 4°C. Winds will predominantly flow from the northwest, increasing to around 20 kmph during the afternoon before subsiding in the evening.

On November 9 also, Delhi will witness mainly clear sky with smog/shallow fog during morning hours. Temperatures are expected to rise slightly, with the maximum ranging from 27°C to 29°C and the minimum holding steady between 10°C and 12°C. The maximum temperature will be near normal, while the minimum will remain slightly below normal. Northwestern winds will continue to dominate, varying between 10 and 20 kmph throughout the day.

Overall, Delhi is set for a spell of calm and cool conditions, along with clear skies in the coming days, while southern states brace for heavy rain under the influence of active weather systems over the Bay of Bengal.
