Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said India is not just an emerging market but an “emerging model” for the world, asserting that the country is moving toward a vibrant and stable economic future despite global uncertainties.
Delivering the sixth Ramnath Goenka Lecture in the national capital, the Prime Minister said the mandate in the Bihar Assembly election reflected people’s trust in the “politics of development.”
Referring to the global macroeconomic situation, PM Modi said the European crisis of 2022 disrupted supply chains and energy markets, yet India recorded strong economic momentum during 2022–23. He added that even as conflict intensified in West Asia in 2023, India’s growth remained resilient, and the country continues to maintain a GDP growth rate of around seven per cent this year.
“At a time when the world grapples with uncertainty and fears of disruption, India is charting a path toward a vibrant and promising future. India isn’t just an emerging market, it’s an emerging model, too,” he said.
Drawing a comparison with the spirit of Ramnath Goenka, PM Modi said the late media stalwart was known for a constructive impatience that pushed for change. “Today’s India embodies this constructive impatience. India is eager for progress, restless to achieve development, and determined to become self-reliant,” he added.
The Prime Minister also urged states to prioritise development and healthy competition.
“Whether it’s the central government or state governments led by regional parties, their primary focus should be on development. I strongly encourage state governments to attract investments and promote growth. Competitions to improve the ease of doing business could be a great step in this direction,” he said.
Responding to commentary following the NDA’s landslide in Bihar, PM Modi said that electoral victories are not the result of “Election Mode” but of deep public outreach. “Winning elections isn’t about being in ‘Election Mode’; it’s about being in ‘Emotional Mode’—connecting with people’s sentiments and understanding their aspirations,” he added.
