India, Nepal to begin annual border talks today

The heads of India and Nepal’s border guarding forces will meet in New Delhi from November 12 to 14 for the 9th Annual Coordination Meeting between the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the Armed Police Force (APF) of Nepal.

“The Indian delegation will be led by SSB Director General Sanjay Singhal, while the Nepalese side will be headed by APF Inspector General Raju Aryal,” the SSB said in a post on X.

This marks the first high-level engagement between the two forces since the ‘Gen Z’-led protests that erupted in Kathmandu in September.

According to officials, the discussions will focus on strengthening coordinated border management, joint prevention of trans-border crimes, and enhancing real-time intelligence sharing to improve security and cooperation along the 1,751-km-long open Indo-Nepal border.

The last annual meeting was held in Kathmandu in 2024, continuing the tradition of hosting the event alternately in both countries since 2012, reflecting the shared commitment to peace, trust, and mutual cooperation.

The upcoming meeting is poised to further consolidate professional synergy and deepen the enduring partnership between the two forces.
