India US defence deal

India signs ₹7,995 crore deal with US for long-term support of Navy’s MH-60R helicopters

The Ministry of Defence on Friday signed Letters of Offer and Acceptance (LOAs) with the United States government for a comprehensive five-year sustainment package for the Indian Navy’s MH-60R multi-role helicopters. The agreement, valued at approximately ₹7,995 crore, was concluded under the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi.

The support package includes spares, technical assistance, training, support equipment, repair and replenishment of components, along with establishment of intermediate-level repair and periodic maintenance infrastructure in India. The ministry  creation of these facilities within the country will enhance self-reliance, reduce long-term dependence on the US, and boost indigenous capability-building under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. It is also expected to generate opportunities for Indian MSMEs and defence firms.

The sustainment support is expected to improve the operational availability of the MH-60R fleet, which is equipped for advanced all-weather missions including anti-submarine warfare. The support arrangement will also enable the Navy to operate the helicopters more efficiently from both coastal bases and naval ships, enhancing mission readiness across primary and secondary roles.
