Indian Railways will run special train services to facilitate the smooth travel of devotees visiting Sri Anandpur Sahib during the commemoration of the Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. The announcement was made on Thursday by Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries, Ravneet Singh Bittu.
The Ministry of Railways said that the initiative honours the legacy of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, revered as Hind Di Chadar for his sacrifice in defending religious freedom, truth and human dignity. The special services are aimed at ensuring safe, comfortable and seamless travel for the large number of pilgrims expected to visit the holy town.
Special Train Services from November 22
To manage the anticipated rise in pilgrim traffic, the Railways will introduce two dedicated train services – one from Patna Sahib and another from Old Delhi.
1. Old Delhi AC Special Train (All AC)
A daily AC special service will run from Old Delhi at 07:00 hrs on 22, 23, 24, and 25 November, reaching Sri Anandpur Sahib at 13:45 hrs the same day. Return services will depart at 20:30 hrs, arriving in Delhi at 03:15 hrs the next morning. The train will stop at Sonipat, Panipat, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Sirhind, and New Morinda.
2. Patna Sahib Special Train (All Classes)
A 22-coach special train will depart from Patna on 23 November at 06:40 hrs, arriving at Sri Anandpur Sahib at 04:15 hrs on 24 November. The return journey will begin from Sri Anandpur Sahib on 25 November at 21:00 hrs, reaching Old Delhi at 23:30 hrs. The train will halt at Lucknow, Moradabad, and Ambala.
Bittu said that the special services reflect the Railways’ commitment to providing accessible and reliable transportation during significant religious observances. He added that the Railways is honoured to support pilgrims paying tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s life and teachings.
Indian Railways has advised passengers to plan their travel accordingly and make use of the special trains for a smooth and hassle-free journey.
