Members of the Indian women’s Cricket team, fresh from their historic triumph at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday.
The President congratulated each player, acknowledging the team’s remarkable achievement in bringing home the World Cup. “Millions of Indians, both in the country and abroad, are celebrating this victory,” she said.
Lauding the team for reflecting India’s diversity, President Murmu said, “They represent different regions, social backgrounds, and circumstances, yet they are united as one—Team India. This team shows India at its best.”
Highlighting the team’s on-field success, she added, “By defeating the seven-time world champion and then-undefeated Australian team, the team strengthened the belief of all Indians in their capabilities. Winning the final by a large margin against such a strong opponent is a memorable example of Team India’s excellence.”
The President also emphasized the team’s inspirational role, particularly for young girls. “You have become role models. The younger generation will be inspired to move ahead in life. I am confident that with the same qualities that helped you write history, you will keep Indian cricket at the top in the years to come,” she said.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by the team, President Murmu said, “You must have experienced the ups and downs of hope and despair, and sometimes even lost sleep. Yet you overcame all obstacles. After the victory over New Zealand, people strongly believed that our daughters would prevail despite the challenges.”
She further underlined the importance of teamwork and support in achieving success. “Your hard work, excellent skills, determination, and the love and blessings of your families and cricket fans have been behind this achievement. In a team game like cricket, every member must remain fully committed at all times,” the President said, extending her appreciation to the head coach, bowling and fielding coaches, and support staff.
