Karnataka BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra on Tuesday felicitated India’s Blind Women’s Cricket Team after they won the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup with a seven-wicket victory over Nepal in Colombo.
India dominated the tournament, finishing unbeaten. In Sunday’s final, the bowlers restricted Nepal to 114/5 before openers led a brisk chase. Phula Saren scored 44 off 27 balls and was named Player of the Match, while Karuna K added 42 off 27 as India reached the target in the 13th over.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the side, calling the win “a historic sporting achievement”.
Taking to X, PM Modi wrote, “Congratulations to the Indian Blind Women’s Cricket Team for creating history by winning the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup! More commendable is the fact that they stayed unbeaten in the series. This is indeed a historic sporting achievement, a shining example of hard work, teamwork and determination. Each player is a champion! My best wishes to the team for their future endeavours. This feat will inspire generations to come.”
Captain Deepika T.C. said the victory reflected the squad’s strong preparation. “Our entire team worked very hard. We are a very strong side and other teams are afraid to play against us,” she said.
India finished the tournament unbeaten, opening their campaign with a win over Sri Lanka before beating Australia by 57 runs. They later chased down 136 against Pakistan in 10.2 overs, cruised past Australia by nine wickets in the semi-final and sealed the title with a commanding victory over Nepal in the final.
