Mansukh Mandaviya unveils King’s Baton Relay for Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday unveiled the King’s Baton Relay for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games at an event in New Delhi, which saw the participation of athletes and dignitaries from India and the United Kingdom.

The ceremony, held at DLF Avenue in Saket, was organised by the Commonwealth Games Association of India (CGAI) and attended by British High Commissioner to India Lindy Cameron, CGA India President P.T. Usha, and Olympic medallists Yogeshwar Dutt, Achanta Sharath Kamal, and Gagan Narang.

The Baton, designed by Indian visual artist Aaquib Wani, highlights themes of art, sport, and sustainability, drawing inspiration from India’s cultural and natural diversity.

“The King’s Baton Relay embodies the values that unite the Commonwealth — harmony, perseverance, and progress,” Mandaviya said at the event. “It reflects how art and sport together can inspire sustainability and growth.”

British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron said the relay symbolised “the enduring partnership between the United Kingdom, India, and the wider Commonwealth family,” while Usha noted that it “celebrates not just athletic spirit but also India’s artistic expression and commitment to sustainability.”

The 2026 Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2. It will mark the fourth time Scotland has hosted the Games, following previous editions in 1970, 1986, and 2014.

The Baton will be on public display in Delhi from Nov. 12 to 14 before moving to Ahmedabad for the next leg of the relay.
