Mercury Dips Further in Kashmir; Srinagar Records Season’s Coldest Night at Minus 2.1°C

Temperatures plummeted across the Kashmir Valley on Wednesday, with Srinagar recording its coldest night of the season at –2.1°C.

At the Pahalgam hill station, the minimum temperature dropped to –3.8°C, while Gulmarg registered 0.5°C.

In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded a minimum of 10.2°C, followed by Katra at 9.5°C, Batote at 2.9°C, and Bhaderwah at 1°C.

Officials from the Meteorological (MeT) Department said minimum temperatures are expected to fall further in the coming days across the Valley.

The weather department has predicted dry conditions from November 13 to 15, partly cloudy skies on November 16, and another spell of dry weather from November 17 to 19.

Doctors in Kashmir have advised elderly people, children, and those with chronic chest ailments to avoid prolonged exposure to the cold.

The Valley’s 40-day period of intense winter, known as Chillai Kalan, will begin on December 21 and continue until January 30.
