The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment will host a national conference on November 26 to mark the grand finale of Samvidhan @75, the year-long nationwide commemoration of 75 years since the adoption of the Constitution of India.
Constitution Day, or Samvidhan Diwas, is celebrated every year on November 26 to honour the adoption of the Constitution. Last year, India observed the 75th anniversary of this historic event.
The national conference, themed “The Living Constitution: 75 Years of Democracy, Dignity and Development,” will take place at Bhim Hall, Dr. Ambedkar International Centre (DAIC), New Delhi.
Organised by the Dr Ambedkar Foundation (DAF), the conference will bring together eminent jurists, Vice-Chancellors, senior academicians, Ambedkar Chair Professors, researchers, social thinkers and student delegates from universities across the country.
Former Chief Justice B. R. Gavai will be the Chief Guest at the inaugural session, while the Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment will deliver the valedictory address, formally concluding the Samvidhan @75 celebrations. Senior officials of the Ministry, including the Secretary and Additional Secretary, will also attend the event.
The conference will include two major panel discussions. The first will focus on “The Living Constitution in Action: Democracy, Dignity and Development in the 21st Century,” featuring leading jurists and constitutional law scholars. The second, titled “Constitutional Pathways to Social Justice and Inclusive Development: Realising Dr Ambedkar’s Vision in Contemporary India,” will be chaired by senior academics and policy experts.
A special exhibition of rare archival documents, photographs and material from the Constitution-making period will offer participants a visual journey through India’s constitutional heritage. The day-long programme will also feature keynote lectures, thematic sessions and interactive discussions highlighting India’s democratic evolution, the vibrancy of constitutional governance and the continued relevance of Dr B. R. Ambedkar’s vision for social justice and inclusive development.
More than 700 participants, including Ambedkar Chair Professors, assistant professors, doctoral fellows and final-year students from New Delhi-based institutions, are expected to take part.
The Ministry noted that the conference reaffirms India’s collective commitment to the ideals of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity—core constitutional principles that continue to shape the nation’s democratic and developmental path. An oath-taking ceremony of the Preamble of the Constitution will also be held for officials and staff of the Ministry and its attached and autonomous bodies.
