National Commission for Minorities marks 150 years of national song ‘Vande Mataram’

The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) organized an inaugural ceremony on Thursday to mark the commemoration of 150 years of India’s National Song, Vande Mataram.’ The event was held at the Conference Hall, Block 3, CGO Complex, New Delhi.

Secretary of NCM, Alka Upadhyaya, along with other officials of the Commission, participated in the mass singing of “Vande Mataram” and viewed a live telecast of the address delivered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The year 2025 marks 150 years since ‘Vande Mataram’ was composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, believed to have been written on Akshaya Navami, November 7, 1875. The song played a significant role in India’s freedom struggle and continues to inspire patriotism, pride, and unity among citizens.

As part of the 150-year commemoration, the National Commission for Minorities will also host a quiz programme next week to celebrate the legacy of the national song.
