No victory parade planned yet; decision after ICC meet, says BCCI Secretary Saikia

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not finalised plans for a victory parade to celebrate the women’s team’s maiden ICC World Cup title, Secretary Devajit Saikia said on Monday.

India beat South Africa by 52 runs in the final to win their first ICC World Cup, ending a year-long title drought. Any celebrations are likely to be decided after senior board officials return from the ICC meetings in Dubai from November 4 to 7.

“Nothing like a victory parade is planned as of now,” Saikia told IANS at Mumbai airport. “I’m leaving for Dubai to attend the ICC meeting. Several officials are going there as well, so once we return, we will plan accordingly.”

Saikia said the board would also raise the issue of the Asia Cup trophy with the ICC to seek its return.

“We will take up the Asia Cup trophy matter with the ICC and hopefully get our trophy back with the respect and honour it deserves,” he said.

India refused to accept the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman and Pakistan’s Interior Minister, after defeating Pakistan by five wickets in the final in Dubai on September 28.

Naqvi, who also heads the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), was scheduled to hand over the trophy. The decision to decline it, citing strained cross-border relations, led to chaotic scenes as India celebrated without the physical trophy or medals.
