Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan on Tuesday said that Operation Sindoor is a compelling example of modern warfare, where precision strike capabilities, network-centric operations, digitised intelligence, and multi-domain tactics were effectively deployed within a compressed time-frame. He made the remarks during his special address on ‘Impact of Technology on Modern Warfare’ at the Delhi Defence Dialogue in New Delhi.
Highlighting the importance of technological superiority, General Chauhan stated, “Technological superiority has become a decisive factor in determining success on the battlefield.” He emphasised that warfare fundamentally remains about securing victory, and those who lead in technology will ultimately prevail. He also underlined the profound influence of emerging technologies, evolving doctrines, and shifting geopolitical dynamics on modern defence strategies.
The two-day dialogue, organised by Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA), focused on ‘Harnessing New Age Technology for Defence Capability Development’. The event was inaugurated by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh.
In his welcome address, DG MP-IDSA Ambassador Sujan Chinoy highlighted the significance of the dialogue coinciding with the Institute’s 60th Foundation Day. He pointed out that global armed forces are transitioning from the industrial era to the information and cyber age, where technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Quantum Physics play a crucial role. He stressed the need for balancing foreign technology acquisition with indigenous defence manufacturing under the Aatmanirbharta policy.
The dialogue brought together policymakers, researchers, industry leaders, and academicians to discuss how new-age technologies can be effectively leveraged to enhance India’s defence capabilities. The ongoing deliberations are expected to contribute significantly to the development of data-driven defence systems and future security innovations.
