Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday launched the Trade Intelligence & Analytics (TIA) Portal, a unified digital platform aimed at improving transparency in trade data and strengthening evidence-based decision-making for policymakers and businesses.
Goyal said greater transparency in trade information would enable stakeholders — including importers, exporters, startups and MSMEs — to take informed decisions. He noted that smaller businesses, even in remote regions, would now access data that was previously available only to larger companies.
The Minister said the global services sector offers “huge opportunities” for Indian enterprises and added that the new portal would support exporters in making better use of Free Trade Agreements. He cautioned that without strong export performance contributing to foreign exchange reserves, India would remain vulnerable to global volatility, and called the current global tariff environment a “wake-up call”.
Goyal urged stakeholders to raise their demands without hesitation, assuring that the Ministry would address issues promptly — either within the Department or by coordinating with other ministries.
The TIA Portal, developed by the Department of Commerce since March 2024, integrates global and bilateral trade databases, including UN Comtrade, into a single analytics system. It offers more than 270 interactive visualisations across over 28 dashboards, providing insights into India’s bilateral trade patterns, global flows, and market diversification opportunities.
The platform includes tools such as the Trade Watch Tower for identifying champion products, dashboards tracking Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme commodities, surge monitoring systems for import and export anomalies, and a critical minerals tracker covering over 30 minerals at the HS code level. Tariff analysis and target-monitoring dashboards are currently under development.
The portal automates data collation through APIs and streamlines workflows like the Monthly Trade Report and trade surge reports, reducing manual effort and improving efficiency. It incorporates trade indices — including the Trade Complementarity Index, Revealed Comparative Advantage, and Trade Intensity Index — to support deeper market analysis.
Built as a cost-effective, open-source system with minimal infrastructure expenses, the TIA Portal aims to replace fragmented analytics tools with an integrated, scalable solution. According to the Commerce Ministry, the platform is expected to strengthen India’s capacity for proactive, data-driven interventions in global trade.
