Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on his marriage to Jodie Haydon, wishing the couple a happy married life.
“Congratulations to my good friend, PM Anthony Albanese and Ms. Jodie Haydon on their wedding. Wishing them a happy married life,” PM Modi said in a post on X.
Albanese announced his wedding earlier in the day, sharing photos and a short video from the ceremony at The Lodge in Canberra. He captioned one post, “Married.” The private ceremony makes him the first Australian Prime Minister to marry while in office.
Several senior members of the Australian government attended the ceremony, including ministers Penny Wong, Jim Chalmers, Katy Gallagher, Richard Marles and others. Opposition Leader Sussan Ley also extended her wishes to the newlyweds.
This is Albanese’s second marriage; his first, to former NSW politician Carmel Tebbutt, ended in 2019. He has one son, Nathan, from that marriage. Jodie Haydon has been publicly seen with Albanese at major events in recent years, including during his 2022 election campaign.
In a joint statement, the couple said they were “delighted” to celebrate their commitment “in front of our family and closest friends.”
