PM Modi inaugurates ‘Shanti Shikhar’ meditation centre in Chhattisgarh, calls for global peace and harmony

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated “Shanti Shikhar,” a new meditation and spiritual learning centre established by the Brahma Kumaris in Nava Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister emphasized India’s commitment to peace, harmony, and sustainable development, and reiterated that the progress of states drives the progress of the nation.

The Prime Minister noted that the day marks a special occasion as Chhattisgarh, along with Jharkhand and Uttarakhand, completes 25 years of its formation. Extending greetings to the people of these states, he said, “Driven by the guiding principle that the development of states fuels the progress of the nation, we are actively engaged in the mission to build a developed India.”

Highlighting the Brahma Kumaris’ contribution to India’s spiritual and social landscape, PM Modi said it had been his privilege to be associated with the organization for many years. Recalling his participation in several of their events, including the ‘Future of Power’ programme in Ahmedabad in 2011 and the 75th anniversary celebrations in 2012, he praised the group’s commitment to peace and public service.

He also expressed his personal connection with the institution, remembering the affection of Dadi Janki and the guidance of Rajyogini Dadi Hriday Mohini as cherished influences in his life. He said that the establishment of Shanti Shikhar – Academy for a Peaceful World embodies their vision and will become a centre for global peace in the years to come.

The Prime Minister quoted a traditional saying to emphasize that conduct is the highest form of dharma, penance, and knowledge, adding that true transformation occurs when words are translated into action. He said the Brahma Kumaris’ spiritual strength lies in their discipline and dedication, noting that their invocation “Om Shanti” — with ‘Om’ representing the universe and ‘Shanti’ representing peace — captures their core message of harmony and tranquility.

“The concept of world peace is an integral part of India’s fundamental thought and spiritual consciousness,” PM Modi said. “We are the ones who see the divine in every living being and perceive the infinite within the self. Every religious ritual in India concludes with a prayer for the welfare of the world and goodwill among all beings.”

He said such thinking reflects India’s civilizational character, where faith and the spirit of global welfare coexist. Indian spirituality, he added, not only teaches the lesson of peace but also guides individuals on the path to peace through self-restraint, self-knowledge, and self-realization.

Speaking about India’s global role, the Prime Minister said that in times of crisis, India stands as a trusted partner to the world. “Whenever a crisis or disaster strikes anywhere, India steps forward to help, acting as the First Responder,” he stated.

He also underscored India’s leadership in environmental protection, noting that the country has emerged as a global voice for nature conservation. “Our scriptures teach us to see nature as divine — to view rivers as mothers and trees as sacred. We must use natural resources with a spirit of giving back, not exploitation,” he said.

The Prime Minister referred to initiatives such as ‘One Sun, One World, One Grid,’ ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future,’ and Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) as examples of India’s proactive approach to sustainability. He said these ideas are being embraced by the global community and reflect India’s responsibility towards the planet’s future.

Concluding his address, PM Modi said that institutions like the Brahma Kumaris continue to empower society and play an important role in nation-building. He expressed confidence that Shanti Shikhar will infuse new energy into India’s efforts toward global peace and unity.

The event was attended by Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, and several other dignitaries.
