PM Modi, President Murmu extend greetings on 25th anniversary of Uttarakhand’s formation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday extended greetings to the people of Uttarakhand on the 25th anniversary of the state’s formation, lauding its progress and contribution to India’s spiritual and cultural heritage.

Uttarakhand, often referred to as Devbhoomi (the land of Gods), was carved out of Uttar Pradesh on November 9, 2000, becoming the 27th state of India. The day marks a milestone in the state’s journey from a people’s movement to a model of balanced development and faith-based progress.

Prime Minister Modi conveyed his wishes on X, saying, “On the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Uttarakhand, I extend my heartfelt best wishes to all my brothers and sisters of the state. Nestled in the lap of nature, our Devbhoomi is today gaining a new pace of progress in every field, along with tourism. On this special occasion, I wish happiness, prosperity, good fortune, and good health to the humble and hardworking people here.”

In a post on X, President Murmu said, “On this historic occasion of the Silver Jubilee of the state’s formation, I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the residents of the heroic Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. The region has made an unparalleled contribution to our country’s glorious spiritual and cultural journey. Over the past 25 years, the state’s diligent and humble people have created new dimensions of modern development. I wish for a bright future for all the residents of Uttarakhand.”

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami described the day as a “silver jubilee of struggle, values, and dedication.” He paid tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, under whose leadership the state was created, calling his vision instrumental in giving Devbhoomi a new identity.

Highlighting Uttarakhand’s development, Dhami said the state has made “remarkable progress in connectivity, infrastructure, industry, tourism, education, health, and women’s empowerment.” He noted that the size of the state’s economy has increased 26 times, per capita income 18 times, and the state budget over 20 times since 2000.

He further said Uttarakhand has become the first state to implement a Uniform Civil Code, reflecting its commitment to reform and inclusivity. “The active participation of women, youth, ex-servicemen, and the global Uttarakhand community is paving the way for a strong and self-reliant state,” he added.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also extended greetings, calling Uttarakhand the “sacred land of mythological traditions.” He said that under the guidance of PM Modi and the leadership of CM Dhami, the state is becoming “empowered, secure, and prosperous,” and prayed to Baba Kedarnath for its continuous progress.
