Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday extended warm greetings to the nation on the occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “The life and message of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji continue to guide humanity with timeless wisdom. His teachings of compassion, equality, humility, and service are deeply inspiring. Greetings on his Parkash Purab. May his divine light keep illuminating our planet forever.”
In a video message, PM Modi elaborated on Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s universal influence, saying, “Guru Nanak Dev Ji was not only the first Guru of the Sikhs but also a world teacher – a ‘Jagat Guru’. He worked for the welfare of humanity and treated all people with equality. From Vancouver to Wellington and from Singapore to South Africa, his light is seen across the world, and his message echoes in every corner. He placed the nation above all else and united India. Guru Nanak Dev Ji awakened the consciousness of the nation, leading people from darkness to light.”
Meanwhile, President Droupadi Murmu also extended greetings to the nation on the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti (Gurpurab), highlighting the relevance of the Guru’s message in today’s world.
In her message on X, the President said, “On the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, I extend my warm greetings and best wishes to all Indians living in India and abroad, especially our Sikh brothers and sisters.”
She added, “This occasion inspires us to adopt the ideals and values of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and guides us towards building a better society. His message teaches us that living a life based on truth, justice, and compassion is the true measure of success. His teachings emphasize the oneness of God and the equality of all human beings. He inspires us to live with honesty and to share our resources with one another. On this occasion, let us imbibe the ideals of Guru Nanak Dev Ji in our lives and follow the path shown by him to build a more peaceful and prosperous nation.”
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also extended greetings on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, posting on X, “Heartiest greetings on the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder and first Guru of Sikhism.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah conveyed his wishes as well. In a post on X, he said, “Heartiest greetings on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, who gave the message of peace, love, equality, and humanity to the world and society. While Guru Nanak Dev Ji declared devotion as the fundamental principle of life, he also inspired people to face injustice and oppression fearlessly. He initiated the langar tradition for social equality and paved the way for compassion and empathy by establishing dharamshalas. His ideals continue to guide humanity in every situation.”
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also extended greetings on Guru Nanak Jayanti, saying, “On the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, congratulations and best wishes to the people of the state and the country. Guru Nanak’s personality embodied the qualities of a philosopher, yogi, householder, founder of a religion, social reformer, poet, patriot, and global brother. He travelled extensively in all four directions to spread the sacred message of peace, compassion, and humanity. Drawing inspiration from Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings, we should all resolve to work together to create a harmonious society.”
The Congress Party too extended its wishes, posting on X, “Warm greetings on Guru Nanak Jayanti! May the divine teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji inspire us to walk the path of truth, equality, and compassion. Heartfelt wishes from the entire Congress family on this sacred occasion.”
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) shared its message, stating, “True Guru Nanak appeared, and the mist and darkness disappeared – the world is now filled with light. Millions of greetings to humanity on the birth anniversary of the founder of Sikhism, the world Guru, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. On this holy day, let us follow the path shown by Guru Sahib Ji and work for equality, unity, and the common good of all.”
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said, “Greetings on the Prakash Parv of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. His life and message of equality, compassion, and truth are an inspiration for all humanity. Let us rededicate ourselves to building a just and humane society and practice the revered Guru Ji’s noble teachings in our daily lives.”
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also conveyed heartfelt wishes on the occasion, In a post on X, she said, “Naam Japo, Kirat Karo, Wand Chhako… Lakh Lakh Vadhaiyan to all on the Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Let us, by acting upon Guru Nanak Sahib Ji’s golden message of honest living, equality, and selfless service, illuminate our own lives and those of others.”
Across the country and abroad, devotees marked the day with prayers and devotion. In Amritsar, thousands took a holy dip in the Amrit Sarovar at Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) and offered prayers. Similar celebrations were held in Delhi, Mumbai, and other cities, where devotees paid homage through kirtan, processions, and acts of community service.
Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab, commemorates the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. The day is celebrated worldwide with spiritual fervour, reflecting the Guru’s eternal message of equality, humility, compassion, and devotion to God.
