Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met Netherlands Prime Minister Dick Schoof on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg and said the bilateral partnership between the two nations is expanding rapidly in sectors such as energy, technology, innovation and water resources.
PM Modi said India and the Netherlands would continue working to deepen trade and investment linkages. “Met Mr. Dick Schoof, Prime Minister of the Government of the Netherlands on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg. The bilateral partnership between our nations is growing rapidly in areas like water resources, innovation, technology and energy. We will keep working to deepen trade and investment linkages in the times to come,” he posted on X.
Both leaders discussed prospects for expanding mutual investments under the Strategic Partnership. Schoof noted that the Netherlands and India cooperate closely in trade, security and innovation, and highlighted his country’s position as the fourth-largest investor in India.
Taking to X, the Dutch PM wrote: “The Netherlands and India work closely together in the areas of trade, security and innovation. We are the fourth largest investor in India worldwide. That is why it was good to meet briefly with Narendra Modi in South Africa during the G20 Summit. We discussed the possibilities of expanding mutual investments through the Strategic Partnership and my participation in the India-AI Impact Summit in New Delhi next year.
Schoof added that both countries would continue their long-term cooperation in a rapidly changing world.
PM Modi held talks with several other leaders at the summit.
Earlier, he met South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and reviewed bilateral ties, with discussions covering commerce, culture, investment, technology, skilling, artificial intelligence and critical minerals. Prime Minister Modi later congratulated Ramaphosa on South Africa’s G20 presidency in a post on X.
The Prime Minister also met UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and Brazilian President Lula da Silva. He said his meeting with Starmer added momentum to the India–UK partnership.
PM Modi said he had a “great exchange of views” with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and an “engaging” discussion with Macron on bilateral issues. He described his meeting with South Korean President Lee as reflecting the “strong momentum” in their Special Strategic Partnership, with a focus on economic and investment cooperation.
After talks with Lula da Silva, PM Modi said India and Brazil would continue working to expand trade and cultural ties.
Prime Minister Modi also met UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and interacted with several other leaders, including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, ahead of the summit’s plenary session.
He later shared the G20 “family photo” on X, saying the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to global progress and prosperity.
