President Droupadi Murmu on Monday graced the commemoration of 125 years of the establishment of Raj Bhavan, Nainital, Uttarakhand.
Addressing the gathering, the President said that just as Rashtrapati Bhavan represents the Republic at the national level, Raj Bhavans stand as symbols of the democratic system in the states. She added that after the formation of Uttarakhand, this historic building has become an integral part of the state’s journey of progress.
The President highlighted that in India’s parliamentary system, the Governor serves as the constitutional head of the state’s governance. The Constitution makers had carefully outlined the Governor’s powers and responsibilities. She said that the people view Raj Bhavans as revered places, and therefore, everyone associated with them should uphold the values of simplicity, humility, morality, and sensitivity.
Expressing satisfaction over Uttarakhand’s continuous progress since its formation, the President said she was confident that the Governor and his team would continue to inspire the people and contribute to the state’s development.
The event marked 125 years of the establishment of Raj Bhavan, which has played a vital role in the administrative and cultural history of the region.
