Rohit to lead India at Junior Hockey World Cup; injured Araijeet Hundal sidelined

Defender and dragflicker Rohit will lead the Indian squad at the FIH Men’s Junior World Cup Tamil Nadu 2025, scheduled from November 28 to December 10 in Chennai and Madurai.

India will be without experienced striker Araijeet Singh Hundal, who has been ruled out due to a shoulder injury.

Coach Sreejesh said the squad was built around players familiar with high-pressure settings, adding that physical ability, skill, team play and mental resilience formed the core selection criteria. He noted that regular training matches against the senior national team at SAI Bengaluru had boosted confidence ahead of the tournament.

India have been placed in Pool B alongside Chile, Switzerland and Oman, who joined as a replacement for Pakistan.

Goalkeepers Bikramjit Singh and Princedeep Singh will guard the posts, while the defence will be anchored by captain Rohit, supported by Amir Ali, Anmol Ekka, Talem Priyo Barta, Sunil Palakshappa Bennur and Shardanand Tiwari.

The midfield unit features Ankit Pal, Adrohit Ekka, Thounaojam Ingalemba Luwang, Manmeet Singh and Rosan Kujur. The forward line comprises Sourabh Anand Kushwaha, Arshdeep Singh, Ajeet Yadav and Dilraj Singh. Gurjot Singh, who made his senior India debut at the 2024 Asian Champions Trophy, has also been named in the squad.
