Veteran Indian actress Kamini Kaushal dies at 98

Veteran Bollywood actress Kamini Kaushal passed away on Friday at the age of 98 due to age-related health complications. One of the most respected and loved figures in Hindi cinema, she was among the longest-living actors in the industry.

Born in Lahore, Kaushal appeared in more than 90 films over a career spanning several decades. She made her debut with “Neecha Nagar,” which won the Palme d’Or at the 1946 Cannes Film Festival, and went on to feature in notable films including “Shaheed,” “Nadiya Ke Paar,” “Shabnam,” “Aarzoo” and “Biraj Bahu.” Her filmography also included titles such as “Do Bhai,” “Ziddi,” “Paras,” “Namoona,” “Jhanjar,” “Aabroo,” “Bade Sarkar,” “Jailor,” “Night Club” and “Godaan.”

She also worked in television, most notably in Doordarshan’s popular show “Chand Sitare.”

Kaushal worked with several leading actors of her era, including Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Ashok Kumar and Dev Anand. Her onscreen pairing with Dilip Kumar in films such as “Nadiya Ke Paar,” “Shaheed,” “Shabnam” and “Aarzoo” was widely admired.

She continued her association with cinema in her later years and appeared in the 2022 film “Laal Singh Chaddha,” starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor, which became her final screen role.

Kaushal is survived by her sons Shravan, Vidur and Rahul Sood.
