3D flex aqueous angiography

Army hospital performs India’s first 3D flex aqueous angiography with iStent

In a major advancement in ophthalmic care, the Army Hospital (Research & Referral), Delhi Cantt, has successfully performed India’s first 3D Flex Aqueous Angiography combined with iStent, a minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, marking a significant milestone in the country’s medical landscape.

The procedure was carried out by the Ophthalmology Department using a new stand-mounted Spectralis imaging system along with a state-of-the-art 3D operating microscope, enabling advanced real-time visualisation during surgery. The achievement places the Armed Forces Medical Services at the forefront of cutting-edge glaucoma treatment.

Glaucoma, one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness worldwide, often progresses without noticeable symptoms. The use of 3D Flex Aqueous Angiography allows surgeons to precisely map aqueous outflow pathways in real time, facilitating targeted surgical intervention and improved patient outcomes.

As the first such procedure performed in India, the integration of advanced imaging with iStent technology sets a new benchmark in glaucoma care. The development is expected to enhance long-term treatment outcomes and strengthen specialised eye care services for both the armed forces community and civilians.
