Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai recorded a landmark year in 2025, achieving global recognition for customer experience, registering record passenger and cargo traffic, advancing digital transformation, and strengthening its sustainability initiatives.
India’s aviation sector continues to expand rapidly, driven by rising demand for air travel, economic recovery and enhanced global connectivity. However, this growth also presents challenges such as capacity constraints, monsoon-related operational risks, sustainability pressures and the need for seamless digital integration.
Against this backdrop, CSMIA has positioned itself as a leading passenger-centric, digitally enabled and sustainability-focused airport by strengthening operational resilience, enhancing capacity and adopting next-generation technologies.
CSMIA became the first airport in India and the third globally to achieve Level 5 Customer Experience Accreditation from Airports Council International (ACI), the highest global recognition for service excellence.
The airport handled a record 55.12 million passengers during 2024–25, the highest in its history. It also registered its highest-ever single-day passenger traffic of 1.76 lakh on November 29, 2025, surpassing the previous record of 1.72 lakh.
In air traffic movements (ATMs), CSMIA recorded 1,036 ATMs on November 21, 2025, breaking the earlier record of 1,032 set in 2023.
Connectivity to Southeast Asia remained strong, with around 2.51 million passengers travelling on these routes. More than 14,000 ATMs were recorded for Southeast Asian destinations, including 1,295 in December alone. Royal Jordanian Airlines also launched non-stop flights to Mumbai, further expanding international connectivity.
In the cargo segment, CSMIA recorded 17 per cent growth in international cargo compared to 2022–23 and achieved its highest-ever daily cargo handling of 204 metric tonnes. Perishable exports also increased, with 3,624 metric tonnes of mangoes shipped, a 9 per cent year-on-year rise. Key destinations included London, Toronto and New York.
The airport commissioned a state-of-the-art, digital-first Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC), enabling real-time situational awareness and proactive operational management. It also completed pre- and post-monsoon runway maintenance to enhance safety and resilience.
CSMIA received India’s first Emirates Airbus A350 and introduced cashless digital payment systems at its multi-level car parking facility, supporting UPI, digital wallets, debit and credit cards, and FASTag-enabled automatic deductions.
Among other recognitions, CSMIA was awarded ‘Best Airport for Digitisation’ at the India Cargo Awards 2025 and achieved ISO 19650-2 certification for excellence in design and construction using Building Information Modelling (BIM).
The airport delivered over 60,000 man-hours of workforce training during 2024–25, strengthening operational capability and safety culture. It also partnered with the Adani Foundation and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to support tuberculosis patients through nutritional assistance programmes.
Going forward, CSMIA aims to further enhance capacity through advanced digital airside management, expand sustainability initiatives, improve multimodal connectivity, strengthen digital touchpoints for passengers, and deepen community engagement and workforce skill development.
