A fresh spell of cold winds is sweeping across Rajasthan, marking the onset of severe winter conditions in the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave alert for Jhalawar, Sawai Madhopur, and Churu districts starting Wednesday. A yellow alert has also been announced for Sikar and Jhunjhunu on December 3 and 4, warning of further temperature drops and cold wave conditions.
According to the IMD, temperatures in the Shekhawati region are expected to fall sharply, reaching 4–5°C between December 2 and 4. Night temperatures across northern and eastern districts may drop by 3–4°C in the coming days, intensifying the chill. Minimum temperatures have already fallen below 10°C in 10 cities. On Monday, several locations recorded lows, including Alwar at 8°C, Pilani at 7.2°C, Sikar at 8.5°C, Churu at 7.4°C, Sri Ganganagar at 7.8°C, Nagaur at 8.8°C, Fatehpur at 6.5°C, Dausa at 9.4°C, Lunkaransar at 4.7°C, Jhunjhunu at 9.3°C, and Pilani at 10.4°C.
A new Western Disturbance is expected to become active over the Himalayan region, which may lead to a further drop in temperatures across North India, including Rajasthan. Meteorologists say the cold wave impact will intensify after December 5, bringing significantly colder nights. Experts also warn that this winter may be longer and harsher than usual, with minimum temperatures likely to remain below the seasonal average from December to February.
The Rajasthan Weather Department has advised farmers, vulnerable groups, and residents to take necessary precautions. People across the state were seen wrapped in heavy winter clothing as cold conditions tightened their grip. Several regions recorded a 1–3°C drop in night temperatures on Sunday.
