Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday released a Guide on Preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for Road Infrastructure Projects, prepared by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), at South Block in the national capital.
The BRO, tasked with constructing and maintaining highways and strategic roads in some of the country’s most remote and challenging terrains, said the guide will serve as a comprehensive and uniform reference for DPR preparation. DPRs are a critical component of infrastructure development, covering engineering design, construction methodology, execution strategy, quality control and cost analysis.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the guide has been developed to bring greater clarity, consistency and technical accuracy to the preparation of DPRs. It compiles relevant specifications, standards, guidelines and procedures into a single reference document, intended to assist engineers at every stage of project formulation, whether for new construction or for upgrading existing road infrastructure.
The ministry said the initiative aims to address persistent issues of time and cost overruns that often arise due to inadequately prepared DPRs. The guide is expected to improve the quality and consistency of project reports, ensure timely execution of road projects and contribute to enhanced strategic connectivity and socio-economic development in border regions through systematic planning, quality assurance and cost-effective implementation.
